Burlage was born in 1984 in Platteville, Wisconsin, which is located approximately 20 miles from Dubuque, Iowa. While he lived in Colorado and Nevada for brief periods, he spent most of his childhood in Wisconsin and Iowa. He fell in love with downhill skiing during his time in Colorado and has maintained his passion for the sport to this day.

At the age of 12, Tyler Lee Burlage moved to Iowa where he worked on the family farm with his father. It was during this time that he developed a strong work ethic, taking pride in a job well done and seeing projects through to completion. Burlage grew up in a small rural community near the Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa where he enjoyed playing sports, helping out on the family farm, and spending time with friends. Burlage's professional choices reflect his adventurous and curious nature. During high school, he held various jobs that aligned with his interests, such as working at a car dealership and a ski resort during the winter.
